Zahra Remtulla Lavender Counselling

Book

I feel privileged to support teenage and adult individuals in navigating the sometimes messy yet rewarding processes of self-exploration and self-development. I believe that people often possess the answers they seek but may need support to confront and explore experiences or parts of themselves they fear facing. I value the therapeutic relationship as a transformative space where relational presence can foster healing, growth, and self-discovery. I strive to bring empathy and validation to my role as a counsellor with the goal of empowering clients to access their inner wisdom, clarify their values, and make authentic and aligned choices.
I also believe it is so important to acknowledge the external challenges posed by systemic injustices and societal constraints, which can make living in alignment with one’s values more difficult. I aim to offer a safe space to explore the impacts of these influences, with special interest in supporting clients with attachment wounds and those navigating the complexities of a world that is not designed to include everyone equally. I hope to help clients identify what they can control and support them in creating meaningful change in their lives.
I am currently in a Masters of Education program at the University of British Columbia, specializing in Counselling Psychology. Over the course of my studies, I have completed training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Relational Empathy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Understanding Aromanticism and Asexuality, and Grief and Loss. I strongly believe in the importance of ongoing training and professional development and look forward to continuing to learn.
I also have a Masters in Public Health from UBC, as well as a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University. Prior to pursuing a career path in counselling, I worked as a high school and elementary school teacher, as well as in program coordination and research roles within the fields of Indigenous post-secondary education, Indigenous-led conservation, and Indigenous mental health.
When not at work, I love spending time in nature, whether hiking through the forest or paddling on the ocean. I find joy and balance in staying active outdoors and cherish the sense of connection to myself and others that it brings.
I am honoured to live, work, and play on the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples and to now be practicing counselling on the lands of the q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), Máthxwi (Matsqui), and se’mya’me (Semiahmoo) First Nations.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you!
